I'm not a serious collector but I have a few old watches laying about including an older model Omega Seamaster. My dad bought this in 1958 or 59 and I've been trying to figure out how to open it up. The case is a so-called "unishell", common in De Ville and Seamaster De Ville models. The movement is accessed through the dial side- I'd say leave that to a watchmaker, as the crown with the split stem need to be removed first, and then a special pump has to be used in order to increase the pressure, so that the crystal pops out. You need to have a tool called a case knife to open it properly. My recommendation would be to take it to a watchmaker or master jeweler to open the back. Otherwise, you risk a nasty scratch to the case if you slip. In order to get the crown, you'll need the case number which means opening the watch. If you had it serviced by a Watchmaker, you can ask him for the case number as he'll probably have a note of it. Then, you can try and get a crown (and probably a stem) from Otto Fre i or Cousins and keep it until the next service or get your Watchmaker to .
